About

Welcome to empathi, the home of images, art and tactile creations made by Emily Wilkinson. I am currently developing this site to be a portfolio, journal and eventually a shop.

I’m currently working on my artist’s statement / blurb which will be an updated version of this:

The predominant media I work in are images, textiles and language. Some interconnected elements of my practice are:

• documenting processes and journeys
• creating physical artifacts, the handmade
• navigating and designing pathways to more creative and sustainable realities
• ecology and our relationship to nature
• fiction and poetry
• health, the body, psychology, emotion and well-being
• creative learning and living
• gender and feminism

It’s a process. Something more concise will come soon.

What does empathi mean? It’s the Welsh spelling of empathy, and etymologically the word empathi means ‘in feeling’ or ‘feeling with’.

What has empathi got to do with Mindful Maps? Mindful Maps is about creative learning and living, and in order to help people do those things I need to do them myself. It’s not always that obvious but there is a lot of crossover. Whilst I love doing participatory work with people I also need to make images, things and words as a means in itself. This is a space to evolve this side of my artistic practice. Also the shop I am working on will eventually stock products which help people learn and live creatively.

Contact me on emily@mindfulmaps.com if anything on this site resonates.
